Discovering Myself: My First Solo Trip to Pokhara
Introduction
Embarking on my first solo journey to Pokhara was not just a trip but a transformative experience. With its breathtaking landscapes and thrilling adventures, Pokhara provided me with moments of peace, self-reflection, and adrenaline. Here's my story of exploration, adventure, and remote work from the heart of the Himalayas.
Arrival in Pokhara: The Gateway to Serenity
Pokhara is a hub for thrill-seekers, and I was ready to dive in:
- Bungee Jumping: Standing at the edge, the world seemed to pause. The leap of faith was exhilarating—a moment of pure freedom.
- Paragliding: Flying over the valleys and lake was surreal, like being part of a postcard come to life.
- Ziplining: Zipping through lush forests at lightning speed gave me a fresh perspective on the raw beauty of Pokhara.
Trekking to Mustang and Australian Base Camp
The treks were a test of endurance and a feast for the soul.
- Mustang Trek: The rugged trails of Mustang led me to landscapes that seemed out of this world.
- Australian Base Camp: A more peaceful trek, where I captured time-lapses of sunsets and my remote work sessions, blending my passions for travel and technology.
Moments Captured Through My Lens
Photography became my companion on this journey. From the golden hues of sunrise over the Annapurna range to the starry nights at the trekking camps, I captured moments that words fail to describe. The time-lapse videos of me working amidst nature became a personal favorite—showing how even amidst adventure, one can stay connected to their goals.
Lessons from My Solo Adventure
This trip taught me more than just trekking routes and adventure sports:
- Self-Reliance: Planning and navigating on my own boosted my confidence.
- Nature's Healing Power: The mountains have a way of grounding you and reminding you of life's simple joys.
- Balancing Work and Passion: Remote work from the trekking camps was a unique experience, proving that adventure and responsibility can coexist.

Pokhara will always hold a special place in my heart as the destination of my first solo trip. It was a journey of discovery—of the world and myself. Conquering Fears: Day 2 of My Solo Trip to Pokhara
Morning Excitement: Paragliding Above Pokhara
I woke up at 6:30 AM, energized and ready to tick off a bucket-list item—paragliding. Unsure where to book, I asked the hostel receptionist, who quoted NPR 8,500. Thinking it was an agent’s price, I decided to head straight to Sarangkot to book locally. A quick ride on Pathao (Nepal's Uber for bikes) brought me to the booking site, where I learned the price was the same and included pickup and drop-off services. Without hesitation, I booked my slot.
The experience was surreal. Soaring above the valleys and Phewa Lake, I felt like a bird—free and untethered. A tense moment arose when an actual bird came too close to our parachute, but the pilot skillfully managed the situation. Despite the potential danger, I was too immersed in the thrill of flying to feel fear. When we finally landed, I was exhilarated and grateful for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Afternoon Adrenaline: Facing My Fears at the Bungee Jump
Back at the hostel, I asked myself, “What’s next?” The answer was clear—bungee jumping. After researching online, I chose the 101-meter jump at Go Bungy Nepal. The ride to the site on Pathao was filled with growing apprehension. Thoughts of heart attacks and my own fears began to overwhelm me.
At the jump site, I met three guys who had just completed their jumps. Their stories of overcoming fear gave me the courage to buy a ticket. However, when it was my turn, my fear skyrocketed. On my first attempt, I couldn’t jump and retreated. The staff, though frustrated, encouraged me to try again. After multiple failed attempts, they decided to count down—but instead of reaching "5," they pushed me off!
For a moment, I was speechless, unable to process the free fall. Then, as the rope caught and I bounced back, I finally screamed and let out my fear. The experience turned from terror to exhilaration. By the end, I felt a deep sense of accomplishment and gratitude for the patient staff who made it possible.
Evening Reflections and Plans for the Next Adventure
Back at the hostel, I met an older solo traveler from India. Our casual conversation turned into an exchange of travel tips. He suggested visiting Ghandruk, while the receptionist recommended the Australian Base Camp for beginners like me. With new ideas in mind, I decided to end the day early.
Day 3: Sunrise at Sarangkot and the Thrill of Ziplining
I planned to watch the sunrise at Sarangkot, setting an alarm for early morning. However, excitement woke me up even earlier. A roommate mentioned he might join, but ultimately, I set out alone, booking a ride to the cable car station to add another new experience to my trip.
Reaching Sarangkot via cable car, I witnessed the breathtaking sunrise over the Annapurna range. The golden hues painted a magical start to my day. As I explored, I stumbled upon a poster for ziplining. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try despite already having a return ticket for the cable car.
At the zipline site, I met a family—a professor from Michigan University, his wife, and their young son. Their joyful approach to life inspired me. The professor shared his philosophy of prioritizing experiences over material wealth and early retirement to spend more time with family. It was a refreshing perspective that resonated with me.
After the exhilarating zipline ride, I returned to the hostel around 10:30 AM. Though breakfast was over, the staff kindly offered me coffee. Exhausted yet fulfilled, I spent the rest of the day resting and reflecting on the incredible moments I had experienced.
